Cherry Creek is a large, swift-flowing stream in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and is the largest tributary of the Tuolumne River. The creek is 40 miles (64 km) long measured to its farthest headwaters; the main stem itself is 26 miles (42 km) long, draining a watershed of 234 square miles (610 km 2) in the Stanislaus National Forest.

The scenery in Cherry Creek and the cliffs on the east side of the Sierra Ancha is spectacular. Most of the road is a shelf road that follows north along the cliffs. The main danger is that you drive off the edge of the shelf while gawking at the scenery.

Cherry Creek into the Tuolumne is a superb class V run for hardshell kayakers, and an exciting raft run, but it is not great for inflatable kayaks. One problem is that there are many angled hydraulics, and because inflatables sit on top of the water, not slightly underwater like hardshells, so it's all too easy to tip over and swim.
