From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Regina is the capital of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and prior to the province's founding was the territorial headquarters of the then- North-West Territories and district headquarters of the territorial district of Assiniboia.
Downtown Regina is located in an area that in the late 1800s was known as Assiniboia and is covered by Treaty 4, which took effect in 1874. Regina was first incorporated as a city in 1903 and was later decreed the capital of Saskatchewan in 1906 following the founding of the province in 1905.
