From the San Diego Union, December 25, 1904: "The tree selected for the honor is one of the three splendid Norfolk Island pines on the plaza [grassy area in front of the hotel].
Hotel del Coronado's History. Times have changed since the hotel’s opening when the nightly price for a room was $2.50, including all meals. The total cost of the hotel in 1888 was $1 million, 40 percent of which was for the furnishings. It was built of several species of wood, without nails; the builders instead used wooden pegs.
Hotel del Coronado's newest history book was published to commemorate the resort's 125 th birthday in 2013. The coffee-table book, " Hotel del Coronado History" , contains more than 400 photos, most of them never-before-published.

Honestly, I was looking forward to ghost hunting at the Hotel del Coronado. I'd seen pictures of this historic grand hotel, set on one of the best beaches in the United States (if you believe Travel + Leisure) in Coronado, California, just across the bay from San Diego.
